Hon. Prince Oluwarotimi Ojo Agunsoye was born in Ijebu-Ijesa, Osun State on April 21, 1962. He had his Primary Education at the Apostolic Primary School, Ijebu-Ijesha and his Secondary Education at Mount Olivet Grammar School, Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State.

He gained admission to the University of Ibadan to read Computer Science and graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons.) Degree. He did his NYSC Programme in Abeokuta, Ogun State between 1990 -1991.

He later had a stint with Management Assistant Services Limited between 1992 and 2005. He became a member of the Transition Committee, Ikorodu Local Govt. as the Deputy Executive Secretary/Supervisor for Education in 2002.

Prior to his appointment as the Commissioner for Local Govt. and Chieftaincy Affairs, Lagos State in 2007, he was the Special Adviser to His Excellency, Governor BolaTinubu on Physical Planning and Urban Development between 2006-2007.  In 2005, he was appointed to the Board of Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA).

While in office, he did not just serve in the Executive Council of Lagos State between 2007 and 2011, he was adjudged to have left a legacy of Excellence based on hardwork in the Ministry of Local Govt. and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The Prince, an astute sports lover, grassroot development expert and apostle of good governance based on the policy of welfarism for all, is a true welfarist to the core with proven record in the hearts of his people. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management (FNIM). He was at a time, given a title by the Igbo Community in Kosofe Constituency as an appreciation of his exemplary leadership qualities and concern for the welfare of Igbo people in the people community.

During the election, held on Saturday March 28th, 2015 which took him to the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Prince Rotimi Agunsoye FNIM, contested and won ticket into the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, Lagos. With a promise of providing the people of his Constituency, the choice of Quality Representation at the Federal level. Having won their confidence overtime as a grassroot politician, mobiliser capped by his kind – hearted mien.

At the House during the 8th Assembly, he raised many motions alongside some bills which endeared him to his colleagues and constituents. Thus he went through the 2019 House of Representatives elections with his head high up. The result of that election resonated the love his people have for him for positive representation of Kosofe and Lagos State at the Federal level.

An author, he has written and delivered several papers at different seminars and symposia. This is capped by his book, LOCAL GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION: MY REFLECTIONS.

As a member of the National Assembly and representative of the people of Kosofe Federal Constituency, he is a member of various committees in the 8th Assembly such as Defence, Public Petition, Human Rights, Sports, Civil Society, Diaspora and Delegation. Today, this man of the people is the Chairman, House Committee on Sustainable Development Goals {SDGs} in the 9th Assembly. Another testimony of his approval ratings amongst his colleagues. This is already capped by his membership of other Committees in the 9th Assembly – Aids, Loans and Debt Management, Commerce, Defence, Finance, Industry, Inter-Parliamentary Relations, Agricultural Productions and Services, Banking & Currency, Petroleum Resources {Up Stream}, Urban Development & Regional Planning, Water Resources and Foreign Affairs.

BILLS/MOTIONS SPONSORED BY R.O.T

From the outset, in the pact he had with his constituents, R.O.T (as he is fondly called by friends and admirers in the political circle), made it clear to all and sundry that his work of making an impact was already cut out for him. And when he did settle down for business, he hit the ground running. Indeed, he became a new ‘Sheriff In Town’ and the era of Representatives warming the seats to make up the number was gone for good.

One only need to see R.O.T at his best to be convinced that truly here at last was a man already cut with a vision for the job. With his robust and vibrant contributions on the floors of the House, one may be forgiven if they mistook this bold and brilliant first-timer for a ranking Honourable. After all, it is not every day people stay glued to their Television sets and listen with rapt attention when seemingly boring national issues are discussed.

How can someone ever get bored when a man with such commanding presence hold the entire House spellbound with his compelling voice? For the avoidance of doubt, here’s the record of some of the Bills/Motions initiated and the others supported by the Congressman Hon. {Prince} Rotimi Agunsoye during his tenure of four years of quality representation.

Highlights of R.O.T’s Legislative Activities In the House of Representatives of the National Assembly.

OVERSIGHT FUNCTIONS

With his membership in such key House Committees as Defense, Human Rights, Diaspora, Civil Society, Public Petition, Sports and Delegated Legislation in the last Assembly, coupled by his Chairmanship of the Sustainable Development Goals {SDGs} Committee, this workaholic of a man works round the clock to impact positively in the lives of people, not only in his Kosofe Federal Constituency but also in Lagos State and in the lives of many Nigerians across board.

CONSTITUENCY PROGRAMMES

If there are Federal Legislators who are passionate about their jobs, R.O.T is clearlyone of the few. No apology if R.O.T is not your regular kind of Representative. He goes about with his novel ideas and unique way of going about his legislative business. Here’s a man who did not wait for Constituency Project Allocations before embarking on programs for his Constituents.

In less than a year in office then, he came up in February 2016 with the Kosofe Federal Constituency Empowerment & Wealth Creation Scheme, which according to dignitaries at the event was the first of its kind in the entire country. This was an Empowerment Programme for Two Hundred (200) Graduates in different categories: Job Placement and Skill Acquisition in ICT, Cosmetology, Solar Energy, Agriculture, Fashion Design, Cinematography, Graphics/Printing, Catering & Hotel Management, Business Skills and Interior Design.

After that, a number of other programs have also been initiated by R.O.T, which have positively impacted the lives of people of Kosofe Federal Constituency.

(1)   Skill Acquisition Program for Fifty (50) Women in collaboration with the National Directorate of Employment.

(2)   Poverty Alleviation Program held to coincide with his birthday on 22th April, 2016 at which Block Moulding Machines, Sewing Machines, Embroidery Machines, Grinding Machines, Motorcycles, Generator Sets, Tricycles and other equipment were distributed to Artisans and Traders.

(3)   Registration of Vocational Skills Trainees with the Lagos State Entrepreneurial Trust Fund (LSETF) and Cooperative Societies for easy access to both State Government and NGO Loan facilities.

CONSTITUENCY PROJECTS

Despite the slow pace of government occasioned by the comatose state the Buhari-led Administration met the nation's economy when it came on board in 2015, our man has been able to influence more federal presence in Kosofe with his Constituency Projects. He capped this with the Construction of two (2) classrooms in Mosafejo Nursery/Primary School, Oworonsoki, Lagos.

Although a bit late in coming due to the aforementioned reason, the first batch of projects was no doubt a remarkable achievements in that they served the dual purposes of a representativesdelivering on his campaign promises to the electorate that brought him to office and meeting up with quality education that is one of the cardinal points of the APC Manifesto.

EMPLOYMENT

With his influence as a legislator of the Federal Republic, this highly connected man has been able to secure employments for unemployed graduates through the N-Power, FRSC, Police and Paramilitary recruitment slots from the Federal Government. All these are exclusive of the recommendations and referrals for job placement in government establishments.

HEALTH CARE DELIVERY

As part of his contributions towards Health Care Delivery to his Constituents, the lawmaker in one of the activities marking his birthday donated a well-equipped Ambulance to serve the Constituency in emergency times.

CONSTITUENCY WELFARE

The welfare of his constituents no doubt is paramount to Hon. Rotimi Agunsoye MHR. That obviously explains the speed with which he responds to the distress calls of his people whenever urgent situations arise. A case in question was the fire outbreak of the Plank and Building Material section of the popular Jakande Fruit Market in 2016, during which the victims were immediately compensated with cash donations and relief materials.

If that was a flash in the pan, the same certainly could not be said of his quick arrival within minutes of receiving a phone call at the scene of another fire incident at a plank market in Ojota on 6th January, 2018. Not only did he facilitate the immediate response of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), he on his own part equally assisted with relief materials and cash donations.

Still on constituency welfare, R.O.T has made an appreciable impact in the lives of indigent people in different aspects bordering on tuition fees, hospital bills, financial assistance and medical assistance through the help of the Lagos State Ministry of Health. Also worthy of note is his collaborative effort with the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to have transformers installed in areas having electricity problems.

As a man of the people, he never misses an opportunity to facilitate with his constituents during festive periods. As such, no expense is ever spared in the distribution of rams, fowls, bags of rice and other gift items during Muslim and Christian festive periods. Realizing the importance of spiritual needs of the people, the youth wing of his support group organizes the much-attended annual R.O.T Youths Xmas Carol and the R.O.T Youths Ramadan Lecture.

PARTY MEMBERS WELFARE PROGRAMME

Like the proverbial hen that never forgets his roost, R.O.T has never for once forgotten home. Though far away in Abuja, his men are always on ground to dole out the monthly welfare package to the party that brought him to power. For the record, Twenty-Eight (28) party members spread across the Seven (7) Wards of each of the Three (3) Local Governments he represents have cause to smile every month courtesy their Representatives. Eighty-Four of them by simple Arithmetic. And this is aside the other batch of eighty-four party members from The Mandate Group caucus that enjoys the same package every month. In all, a total number of One Hundred & Sixty - Eight party members benefits from R.O.T’s monthly largess.

AWARDS

A man working this hard surely cannot escape the notice of all, particularly the swelling rank of admirers following the trends in this highly eventful political dispensation. On that premise, he has been Conferred with deserving honours by appreciative bodies in recognition of his outstanding performances.

CONCLUSION

After years of meritorious service to his constituents in the National Assembly, R.O.T has lived  more than the expectations of his constituents and beyond the mere title of a legislator. Having performed far beyond expectations, the people of Kosofe Federal Constituency cannot but thank APC for giving them R.O.T.

True to kind, the last month of the year-2020 saw the man many prefers to call THE PROMISE KEEPER trained and empowered 500 members of his constituents in different fields of human endeavours through his Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Programme.
